Nerdio Secures $500 Million to Enhance Microsoft Cloud Management Services
Funding Milestone and Growth
Chicago-based startup Nerdio has achieved a significant milestone, raising $500 million in a Series C funding round. This impressive influx of capital marks a substantial increase in valuation, reportedly exceeding $1 billion, which is a significant jump from its prior Series B round two years ago.
A Unique Cloud Management Solution
Nerdio emerged from an IT-as-a-service company called Adar in 2020. Today, it serves prominent clients such as PayPal, Sony, and Comcast by specializing in cloud management services aimed at optimizing infrastructure costs and deployments for businesses.
The company’s flagship product, Nerdio Manager for Enterprise, offers tools for managing Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows applications. By automating various tasks, including user-provisioning and application deployment, Nerdio simplifies the complexities associated with cloud infrastructure.
The Growing Demand for Virtual Desktops
As businesses increasingly transition to remote and hybrid working environments, the demand for virtual desktops—remote server-based environments—has surged. These systems allow users to access applications and data from any device with an internet connection. Nerdio’s modern approach offers a competitive edge over traditional legacy systems like Citrix, which were established before the cloud era.
Streamlining Cloud Management
Joseph Landes, Chief Revenue Officer at Nerdio, emphasized the challenges companies face when navigating cloud environments. “Managing cloud environments is complex and costly — it typically requires a lot of specialized technical expertise and a mix of costly, siloed tools,” he noted. “Nerdio provides a single, comprehensive platform that allows organizations to manage their Microsoft cloud environments without the need for extra skills, tools, or workflows.”
Investment Utilization and Future Growth
This latest funding round, featuring U.S. growth equity firm General Atlantic alongside Lead Edge Capital and Stepstone, aims to enhance Nerdio’s product offerings for key Microsoft services such as Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft 365. Currently employing around 300 people, the company plans to significantly increase its workforce to support its expanding global presence and customer service initiatives.
